Mount Kailash (6638m) is one of the heavenly mountains in South Asia, accepted to be the habitation of Hindu Ruler Shiva. The Hindus, Buddhists, Jains, and Bon Pa adherents of Mount Kailash are the four religions that share the mountain as their center. However, due to its remote location, Kailash receives few pilgrims annually. Mount Kailash is considered by adherents of the Hindu religion to be the location where Lord Shiva lives with his wife, Goddess Parvati, and other helpers. Moreover, Tibetans respect Mount Kailash as Kang Rimpoche (Ways of the Spirit), while the adherents of antiquated Bon Dad religion take Kailash to be the spirit of Tibet. Similarly, the Jain religion considers Mount Kailash to be Mount Ashtapada due to the belief that their saint Rishabanatha attained spiritual liberation there. |
